museums and musical venues, Middlesex County attracts
visitors looking for all types of artistic and top-notch
cultural arts programming. Looking for Broadway-quality
theater with affordable tickets? We are home to the
historic State Theatre of New Jersey and the region’s
only African-American theater, Crossroads Theatre
Company. The award-winning Plays-in-the-Park series
held at the amphitheater in Edison’s Roosevelt Park
attracts an audience of over 50,000 each summer. A
unique collaboration between community theater and
local government since 1963, these standout theatrical
productions recreate as closely as possible the intent,
stature and scope of the original Broadway productions.
Looking for weekend activities that are fun, free and
family-friendly? Our calendar is full of annual multicultural
street fairs and festivals that reflect the colorful diversity of
our residents. We have a biannual Film Festival with over
100 screenings and events sponsored by the Rutgers Film
Co-Op/New Jersey Media Arts Center.
