To mark the 200th anniversary of this historic act, the nonprofit
organization Celebrate Perth Amboy funded the construction of
the Bill of Rights Commemorative Arch across the street from
the municipal building in City Hall Circle.
A short walk from City Hall brings you to Smith Street, one of the
main shopping districts. Unique shops, salons, fitness centers,
restaurants, bakeries and other businesses line the street from
the waterfront to the city’s Gateway neighborhood. In this
designated Urban Enterprise Zone, shoppers enjoy a reduced
sales tax of 3.3% on purchases at participating businesses.
Residents, businesses and nonprofit organizations join with the
Mayor, City Council and Perth Amboy’s municipal departments
to create a friendly environment for visitors. The city’s Business
Improvement District sponsors special events and activities and
helps enhance the downtown environment by providing signs
and kiosks with information about shopping, dining, parking
and exciting places to explore.
