Township of
Old Bridge
The Township of Old Bridge, voted one of the safest cities in the country to raise a family, is
located centrally between two major New Jersey regions: the Shore Region and the bustling
Gateway Region. With exceptional schools, recreational opportunities, access to top-notch health
care and a proactive business environment, Old Bridge Township has established itself as an
ideal location for families, professionals, retirees and businesses. Over 70,000 residents live in Old
Bridge Township, the third largest municipality in Middlesex County.
Although today’s progress and population may make it difficult to see beyond the highways and
buildings to another era, the area of Old Bridge was once land dominated by forest, dotted with
Native American settlements, trails and fields cleared for planting. As the centuries went by, farms
and villages covered the landscape.
The Lenni-Lenape were the first inhabitants of the area. They gathered on the shores of Raritan
Bay in the summer with other clans and families from the north and south to trade, fish and visit.
Latter-day residents of Old Bridge would adopt this tradition and call it Salt Water Day.
