A vibrant public art program has brought murals, painted Adirondack chairs
and a stage for performances and poetry reading in Imagination Alley just
off of Main Street. Highlights include two works by Brooklyn-based graphic
artist Stephen Powers as part of his Metuchen Love Letters series and a
history mural by local artist Edward Wetzel in Imagination Alley. The first
robot-painted mural on the East Coast decorates the side of 10 Station
Place in the center of downtown.
A growing and vibrant restaurant scene features Chinese, Dominican,
French, Greek, Italian, Irish, Indian, Japanese, Kosher, Mexican, Middle
Eastern and Thai cuisines, as well as some of the best bakeries, cafes,
pizzerias and ice cream parlors in New Jersey.
Traditional festivals and events include the Spring Street Fair and the
Country Fair, held on the first Saturday in October. Stroll down Main Street
for Cruise Nights, held monthly from April through September, and enjoy
the art and muscle of antique, collectible and performance cars and
motorcycles. Recent new promotions, many anchored on Town Plaza at
New and Pearl Streets, include Downtown Loves Moms, Movies Under
the Stars, Downtown Loves Dads, Kids Takeover and Haunted Downtown.
