into control systems will continue to
refine the ease of use of these systems
and will customize the end-user
experience. KISS (keep it simple,
stupid) should be applied to any
AV system. Do not make it more
complicated than needed. When
some level of complexity is encountered,
use a vetted control system
that is known to be reliable.
As with anything, the idea of
“garbage in, garbage out” applies
to AI. There will need to be periodic
checks and balances to verify
whether data is valid. However,
as time passes and patterns are
understood at a machine level,
AI can be leveraged to assist where
necessary in any AV application.

• International Meetings:
As the world has become
more connected, so too
have relationships with
companies spanning the
globe. Face-to-face meetings
may still be necessary, but
when an online collaboration
meeting is required,
individuals from anywhere
in the world can sit within
their respective collaboration
rooms and discuss a project
with AI translating languages
back and forth (Figure 2). It
is as if a personal translator
is sitting in the room. The
possibilities with this type
of technology are great.
People and companies that
never thought of working
together before have the
opportunity to harness each
other’s expertise to make
a great project even greater.
This technology may not be
perfect from the start, but
it will fine tune itself over
time as more and more
iterations take place and
corrections are made.
Wearables
The use of wearables has become
mainstream with a great number
of the population owning fitness
trackers, watches that function
as personal assistants and smartphones;
yes, the smartphone can be
considered a wearable. These devices,
either solo or in tandem with
a smartphone, can track locations,
access calendars for appointments
and even track the wearer’s vital
signs. Buildings are becoming smarter
and people with a wearable who
enter a building could potentially
have digital displays greet them with
important information (e.g., meeting
schedule, locations, key emails),
as well as validating their identities
for use in computing applications.
A two-step authentication process
may be needed for some applications;
this is becoming the
cybersecurity norm.
Control Systems
Digital displays and sound equipment
are not necessarily commodities
right now, but they are more
so than a highly resilient and robust
control system. AV control systems
will be the core of any new AV
system moving forward. End users
are interested in ease of use, predictability
and correct functionality in
a way only a robust control system
can provide. Thus, AI incorporated
