be happening, such as a clearance
sale at a nearby store. It may not
pertain to every commuter on the
highway, but a large contingent of
them may take notice and possibly
entertain the idea of stopping and
purchasing those goods or services.
The ICT Infrastructure to deliver
those messages will need to
be resilient.
Healthcare
The patient’s experience is one of the
most important priorities of healthcare
institutions. The satisfaction
of a patient is reported through the
Hospital Consumer Assessment of
Healthcare Providers and Systems
(HCAHPS) scoring model. Much of
the patients’ experiences within
a hospital resides in the patient

rooms, and AI can play a significant
role in delivering a great experience
in that space (Figure 4). Typically,
a patient would use a device like
a pillow speaker to get requests
to the nursing staff. What if those
requests were able to be made
verbally through an AI assistant?
Opening shades, turning on the TV,
playing background music or order-
ing a meal can be done through an
AI assistant. Perhaps the AI assistant
can suggest meals that are based on
preferences or medical needs. What
if an AI assistant did the intake for
a medical facility? Medical information
is protected by the Health
Insurance Portability and Accountability
Act (HIPPA), so there will be
additional security measures that are
required when using virtual assistants
that take voice commands. AV professionals
deploying AI in healthcare
facilities will need to take the
necessary precautions to protect
this data.
Higher Education
Colleges and universities are looking
for different ways to attract prospec-
tive students to their campuses.
Students want to use cutting edge
technology, and AI within AV
enabled spaces will be one of the
components that allows for just that;
it serves as a differentiator among
colleges and universities. Labs have
been increasingly using AV to
collaborate between classrooms
and remotely to offsite campuses
in a similar fashion as AI in AV for
conducting meetings. In the future,
