When Jesus saw him lying there, he knew that the man had
been crippled for a long time. So Jesus said to him, “Do you
truly long to be healed?”
John 5:6 TPT
“Do you want to get well” seems like the most obvious question to ask a person who is
hurting. But the man at the Pool of Bethesda--like many of us if we’re honest--was
ready to give an account of the limiting excuses that stopped even a glimmer of hope
from entering into his circumstances.
I can recall many times in my life where I desired someone to validate my feelings more
than I wanted to get up on faith and experience God’s freedom and healing.
At first, the question Jesus asked seems to be lacking compassion but look at the words
right before He asked the question. It says, “When Jesus saw him lying there, he knew
that the man had been crippled for a long time.” Jesus knew how long he had already
been in that low place.
How many times have we created this false narrative that God is blind to our struggle and
deaf to our cries? God knows. He sees every weapon that’s formed against us.
He's felt the pain that’s crippled us in different seasons. He sees the brokenness that left
us depressed. He knows just how long it’s been, but God, in all His sovereignty and grace,
is not asking us about where we’ve fallen in life, what’s stopping us from getting up, or
the fear that’s kept us bound. He’s asking us about our faith. He’s asking us to exalt our
faith over the fear that it won’t work again, and He’s asking us to take a step towards
healing.
God sees you.
Do you want to be healed?
Are you willing to leave the broken comfort and step towards Jesus? Are
you willing to let go of the unforgiveness and let God’s love lift you?
Are you willing to stop denying God’s grace and walk away from the sin that keeps you
bound?
Are you willing to stop waiting for the water to stir and look to the one who walks on water?
Jesus’ part of our healing was done on the cross. It doesn’t matter how long ago that
sacrifice was made and it doesn’t matter how long you’ve been sitting by your own pool
waiting. Take a step towards the joy and peace found in Jesus and be confident in His
power to heal you.

What area are you waiting for God’s healing?
What’s stopping your willingness to get up and be made whole
physically, emotionally, or mentally?
