And he said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you
eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat
from?”
Genesis 3:11 NIV
God told us in Philippians 4 to think on things that are true, noble, right,
pure, lovely, and admirable, but the enemy we all have in common has
gotten us to eat from the tree of lies that we no longer believe what God
initially spoke.
God said we are chosen, but we’ve bought into the lie that we must
compete for a seat at any and every table.
God said we are accepted, but we shrink back from the stones of rejection
thrown our way.
God said that He is good and will work everything together in the same way; but
when life feels like anything but good, we forget this truth.
Why don’t we ever stop to question the voice that questions us?
Why don’t we ever stop to ask ourselves and each other, “Who told you
that?”
Who told you that you are not enough because God said you are more than a
conqueror through Christ (Romans 8:37).
Who told you that you don’t have enough because God said that He
provides for you according to His riches (Philippians 4:19).
Who told you that your life is over because people hurt you, the opportunity
was not given, or because you failed because God will restore everything you
lost; he'll have compassion on you; he'll come back and pick up the pieces
from all the places where you were scattered (Deut 30:3-5 MSG).
Relying on her own understanding, Eve was deceived by the enemy because she
didn’t know what God said. How many times have we been guilty of the same?
Not knowing what God said about our identity, so we live a life less worthy
than the one we’ve been given. Not knowing what God said about our calling,
so we chase endless pursuits. When our eyes are opened to the truth, we hide
from God instead of going to Him for reassurance and redirection.
On our own, we are not enough which is why God left us with the Holy Spirit to
lead, guide, and remind us of the truth when lies threaten to limit our
potential and God’s power. We don’t have the same fate as Adam and Eve.
Thank God for Jesus. Don’t hide behind the lies the enemy shouts at you.
Don’t hide if you’ve fallen far from the truth. Listen for the still small voice
that’s always there to remind you of who He is and who you are in Him.

What are the lies you’ve
believed that you need to
start questioning, “Who
told me that?”
