The Oar House
You don’t have to go to Central Florida
to find the most hair-raising ride in the
state. Just ride in your own vehicle through
West Pensacola and have the supersonic
F/A-18s of our hometown Blue Angels flight
demonstration squadron come screaming
low in the sky from behind during one of
the team’s regular practices and your heart
will skip a beat or two. That’s a thrill ride
you won’t find anywhere else. And it’s just
part of what makes West Pensacola and
its communities — Warrington, Navy Point,
Myrtle Grove, Brownsville, Bellview and
Navy Point — so unique.
West Pensacola has its beloved “Blues”
for sure, but it also boasts a collection
of bayous, bays, swamp trails and nature
preserves, including Tarkiln Bayou Preserve
State Park, which is home to four species
of rare and carnivorous pitcher plants.
(Don’t worry, you’ll be safe, as the beautiful
yet sly plants only eat insects!) Enjoy the
westside’s natural beauty along bayous
Grande and Chico, both popular boat launch
areas, or take a relaxing walk on the Jones
Swamp Wetland Preserve and Nature Trail,
where a variety of local flora and small fauna
can be observed.
Enjoy fresh, local seafood and live music
while watching sailboats heading toward the
bay during the day or coming back into the
bayou during a picturesque and soul-soothing
tangerine sunset. The Neighborhood Ice
Cream Parlor can satisfy your sweet tooth,
and if you want something fudgier, there’s
an old-fashioned candy store (Remember
When Sweet Shop) that makes a yummy root
beer fudge, along with other fantastic fudge
flavors.
