Yes, Naval Air Station Pensacola is West Pensacola’s anchor and the very reason
that distinctive communities such as Navy Point and Warrington sprouted in the first
half of the 20th century so as to support the naval mission. Part of that mission has
been to train the next generation of naval aviators. So while NASP is home to the
Navy’s best pilots with the Blue Angels, it has also earned its moniker as the “Cradle of
Naval Aviation” for its nurturing of the Navy’s newest pilots.
And if you still have energy after touring the
355,000-square-foot museum and its accompanying
37-acre grounds, across the street you’ll find the
Pensacola Lighthouse, a 177-step structure built in
1859 that is rumored to be haunted. It’s been featured
on numerous television programs, including the
popular paranormal show Ghost Hunters.
