The Pensacola Ice Flyers
will be in their 12th season
as members of the Southern
Professional Hockey League.
The team plays 28 home
games from October through
March in the Pensacola Bay
Center. Each night, the Ice
Flyers have different themes
and giveaways.
In auto racing, Pensacola’s annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags
Speedway is regarded as the “Super Bowl of Short Track Racing.”
Held the first week of December, it attracts race teams from Maine to
California, trucking race machines to compete in the banked, half-mile
asphalt oval. The Snowball Derby, broadcast globally on Speed51.com,
is the signature event of a race event schedule at Five Flags Speedway,
which runs from March to December.
The 2021 Sun Belt Conference Men’s/Women’s Basketball
Tournament will be in Pensacola at the Bay Center for the first time. It
begins a contract with the league that extends to 2025. It will be the
largest basketball event in Pensacola history with preliminary round
games to also be played at Pensacola State College. The winners from
each tournament’s championship game — shown on an ESPN broadcast
platform — receive automatic bids to the NCAA Tournament.
