WATER & BEACH
RECREATION 101
Many waterside activities begin well before summer
and continue into the fall. Our freshwaters are equally
alluring—so explore in a canoe, kayak or pedal or
power boat, cast a rod or take a swim. Enjoy a sailing
lesson or take an ecotour of Barnegat Bay.
BEACH FEES
Ocean County and its beach towns focus tremendous energy and
resources on maintaining the beaches, so expect fees for beach
access and/or parking during weekends in the late spring and
early fall and daily during the summer. Daily beach badges may
be purchased at the beach. Seasonal passes are also available.
Generally, children are free and senior citizens pay reduced fees.
Some towns offer free access for active-duty service men and
women and their dependents, with identification.
LIFEGUARDS & WATER
CONDITIONS
Lifeguards are on duty at the ocean beaches during
daytime hours on weekends in late spring and early
autumn and daily in the summer. Hours and dates vary.
For your safety, please check lifeguard hours and water
conditions in advance.
