County reports that the over
6,000 volunteers, who gave
more than 17,528 hours of
service to help The Salvation
Army serve the needs of the
community, were recognized
at its Partner Appreciation
Day, where awards were
presented.

50th Anniversary, where
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick
Kriseman and our U.S.
RepresentativeDavid Jolly
spoke and Pinellas County
school bands performed. The
theater was opened as The
Bayfront Theater in 1965 as
part of the city’s Bayfront
Center complex and was
renamed The Mahaffey
Theater in 1988.

that the 31st annual “Sunday
in the Arts” gala, hosted by Las Damas de
Arte (ladies of Art), featured the art of
notable women artists, such as herself,
Suzanne Camp Crosby, Maggie
Newman and Lynn Munos. The benefit
at Scarfone/hartley gallery on the
University of Tampa campus raised
funds to help community projects.
Bonnie Strickland of the boutique

have opened their doors at 100 Beach
Drive, nE in Suite 102 in downtown
St. Petersburg. She and her outstanding
BuzzWorthy
and art historian, is exhibiting five
paintings from her “Coming to America”
and “Childhood” series at Ruth Eckerd
Hall. The paintings are of her early
impression of coming to America as a
child and her multiple cultural memories
of the 1960s.
Bill Edwards was presented with the
48th golden Baton Award by The Florida
Orchestra guild of St. Petersburg at The
Club at Treasure Island in recognition
of his support of the Orchestra and
his leadership in transforming our
community.
Dominique Labauvie has started
a series of new editions with Bleu Acier
gallery in Tampa using wood veneer and
silver ink that will lead to an artist book.
The artist has recently had his first solo
exhibition at the Mindy Solomon gallery
in Miami.
Kevin Plummer, head of School at
Tampa Prep, welcomed guests to the
Festival of the 40th in celebration of the
school’s 40th anniversary in downtown
Tampa. The event was held on their field
with games, music, food trucks and
fireworks.
Vince Naimoli,who brought the Devil
Rays to Tampa Bay, was honored for his
leadership by being selected to throw out
the first pitch to open the new season for
the Tampa Bay Rays. Without Vince,
Tropicana Field could have ended up
empty to this day. Bravo, Vince!

St. Petersburg, introduced Dalí’s 1936 Venus de Milo with
Drawers during a preview tour of the Museum’s current “Dalí
and da Vinci: Minds, Machines and Masterpieces” exhibit.

the director of the Office of national Drug
Control Policy, a Cabinet post.

in Tarpon Springs has announced that
they have joined the gluten-free
movement.
John Travolta held a fundraising
screening of his latest movie, The Forger,
at Clearwater’s Capitol Theatre to benefit
the Marcia P. hoffman School for the
Arts at Ruth Eckerd hall. When it was
announced that the event had raised
$38,000, the two-time Academy Award
nominee graciously donated $12,000 of
his own money to raise the number to an
even $50,000. John has class!
