While sailing the Colorado River on
the Vanishing Texas River Cruise,
we passed Ceremonial Rock and
these waterfalls that constantly flow
into the river from springs above.
The Highland Lakes region of Burnet County, an hour northwest of the bustling city of Austin,
Texas, is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the beauty of nature and a laid-back Texas lifestyle.
The county was named in honor of David Burnet (pronounced “burn-it”), the first president
of the Republic of Texas. Texas became a state in 1845, and in 1849, Fort Croghan was built to
protect frontier settlers from Indian raids in the area that became Burnet County. Since the military
