Steve Short, the acting president
and CEO of Tampa General Hospital,
congratulated the team that makes up the
hospital organization for being ranked
the top hospital in the Tampa Bay area by
U.S. News and World Report, and second of
all hospitals in Florida. The hospital also
earned high marks for many of its medical
specialties, such as cardiology and heart
surgery, diabetes and endocrinology and
gastroenterology and GI surgery. More
than 4,500 medical centers were evaluated
in this nationwide study.

Judy Lisi, Opera Tampa general
director, has named Andrew Bisantz,
Jorge Parodi and Robin Stamper as
guest conductors for the 2017-2018 season.
Bisantz will conduct Macbeth, Pardoi will
conduct The Barber of Seville and Stamper,
the managing director and chorus master
for Opera Tampa, will conduct The
Marriage of Figaro.
Jeannie Shapiro, executive director
of the Clearwater Free Clinic, thanked
participants who attended its “Lets Build
a Clinic” construction kick-off event for
the clinic’s new home at 1218 Court St. in
Clearwater.
Judy Lisi, president of the Straz Center
for the Performing Arts in Tampa, has
announced that after working for three
years with the center’s namesake David
Straz Jr. as liaison, the Ballet Nacional de
Cuba, which last performed at the Straz
in 2003, will return to the Straz in May to
perform Giselle. 9

the Rotary Club of Clearwater, and Solace
Insurance CEO Bob Childress presented a
large donation for educational endeavors
from Rotary to the Clearwater Jazz Holiday
Foundation at the Jazz Holiday’s Giants of
Jazz performance at the Capitol Theatre.
SKYWAY is an exhibition shared between three
museums celebrating artistic practice in a variety
of media by artists throughout Tampa Bay.
