Dalí and Schiaparelli
Elsa Schiaparelli, who created fashions during the years between
World War I and World War II, explored bold surrealistic designs
that were heavily influenced by Salvador Dalí and other artists who
used vibrant colors, experimental fabrics and elegant handmade
decorations. Her haute couture clients ranged from the Duchess
of Windsor Wallis Simpson to actresses Mae West and Marlene
Dietrich. Like Dalí, with whom she often collaborated, Schiaparelli
used her wild imagination and dreamlike visions to shock the
senses. The “Dalí and Schiaparelli” exhibition will open on October
18th and run through January 14th at the Salvador Dalí Museum
in St. Petersburg. On Saturday, October 14th there will be a grand
fashion show and gala at the museum. There also will be a brunch
on Sunday, October 15th at the Mahaffey Theater. For tickets or
more information, call (727) 823-3767.
