The “Cabinet of Curiosities” gallery features
displays that highlight the important of insects
in decomposition.
In the first of three sections covering
7,000 square feet of gallery space, this
Canadian artist, a professor of textiles
at the University of Wisconsin-Madison,
has pinned insects into place. In another
area, her “Cabinet of Curiosities” exposes
insects in decomposition, and a large
Victorian apothecary-type cabinet with
drawers contains vignettes of insects
performing human activities. The third
section is a whimsical Victorian “animal
dinner party” that was inspired in part
by the tea party in Alice in Wonderland.
The exhibit is the biggest art installation
of the artist’s 20-plus year career.
