The Clearwater Jazz Holiday Foundation
held its annual “Giants of Jazz” concert at
the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre with music
educator Frank Williams leading an onstage
tribute to jazz legends Chick Corea, Lionel
Hampton, Milt Jackson, Jelly Roll Morton
and Sonny Rollins. The performance
featured jazz students Anthony Aldissi,
Ben Dunham and Tristan Nelson, who
demonstrated firsthand the success of
the Clearwater Jazz Holiday’s popular
Education Outreach Program. After this
free concert, the High Note Society crossed
the street to Clear Sky on Cleveland for its
monthly social.
Former Ruth Eckerd Hall executive director
and CEO Robert Freedman received a big
“thank you” from music educator Frank
Williams for helping to establish the hall’s
outstanding music education programs.
The National Association of Catering and
Events held a fundraiser at the Kapok
Special Events Center in Clearwater to
raise funds for its Pat Discianno Memorial
Scholarship Fund, which benefits the
continued growth of catering and event
professionals. The evening was filled with
entertainment, food samplings, libations
and a silent auction, as guests strolled
throughout the Kapok Special Events
pavilion on McMullen Booth Road that once
was home to the world famous Kapok Tree
Restaurant. The event was co-chaired by
Pam Rubinson, owner of the Kapok Special
Event Center and Allan Dadetto, president
of the Tampa Bay chapter of NACE.

for hosting the Taste of NACE at her Kapok
Special Events Center in Clearwater.

Point of Light Awards
The 13th annual Point of Light luncheon that benefits Lighthouse
of Pinellas in Largo and assists the blind and visually impaired
was once again chaired by Joan Kline with John Wilson as master
of ceremonies and held at the Hilton St. Petersburg Carillon Park.
This year’s Beacon of Light Award was given to the Free Family
Foundation, and the John Wilson Spotlight Volunteer Award was
presented to the Honorable Judge Joseph Donahey. Richard Salem,
founding partner of the Tampa-based Salem Law Group, was
the keynote speaker. The Lighthouse’s educational and training
programs are designed to address the physical, emotional and
social challenges associated with vision loss so that its clients can
become self-sufficient and live meaningful lives.

ecological benefits as it emits clean water
and heat with zero carbon emissions.
Alain Cerf, owner of the Tampa Bay
Automobile Museum in Pinellas Park, is a
great believer that the world’s dependence
on carbon emitting and nonrenewable fossil
fuel must come to an end. He sees hydrogen
(H2) as the best alternative to fossil fuel and
hopes that hydrogen fuel cell vehicles will be
the answer. To spread the word, he hosted
a public event at the museum to showcase
a new, advanced Hydrogen Fuel Cell Public
Transportation Bus from Canton, Ohio. The
bus emits clean water and heat from the
tailpipe with zero carbon emissions. The
museum also displayed a Mercedes-Benz
B Class Hydrogen Fuel Cell sedan that uses
similar technology
