ART
154 TAMPA BAY MAGAZINE | NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2019
This fish is an example of the Palm Harbor
artist’s ability to capture a common subject
in his own special manner.
Some people are drawn to art by
nature, others study it, and still
others pursue art because it is
necessary for their existence. Nic
Conrad of Palm Harbor falls into the
last category. In fact, it was misfortune,
depression and despair after a job loss a
little more than a decade ago that drove
him to painting. Since then, his obsession
with painting has become his therapeutic
release and comfort.
At first, he was self-conscious about
sharing his work with others. However,
as more and more people told him they
would like to purchase a piece of his work,
he relaxed and began to enjoy sharing it.
Recently, he displayed one of his large
pieces of acrylic on canvas at a local
Dunedin gallery. It was a major decision
that resulted in Nic accepting his talent,
happy that others besides his muse, his
granddog Max, appreciate his images.
Artist Nic Conrad began painting
as a release, proving that often good
can come from misfortune.
Texture, form and color join together
in this bright homage to nature.
