As a veteran
crossing
guard, Linda
Overcasher
makes sure elementary
and middle school students
make it safely across the busy
intersection of Keene Road and Union
Avenue each day.
But she saw that the kids there
had other needs, especially on
steamy, summer-like days.
They would many times
be red-faced and seem
overheated when making
the long trek home from
school. So she decided to do
something about it.
Overcasher, who has been a crossing
guard for the Clearwater Police Department for seven
years, started bringing cold water for the students. She

Good Deeds are Good for Community
keeps it iced in her trunk and the kids help
themselves each day on the way home
from Dunedin Elementary and
Dunedin Middle schools.
"I love the kids and I worry
about them being too hot,"
Overcasher said about her
good deeds that received
attention on a moms'
Facebook group.
Channel 28 heard of her efforts
and came out as mothers of students
showed up to contribute to her water supply.
After all, she gives way about 18 bottles of water a day
-- out of her own pocket.
Overcasher, 76, shrugs off the attention, saying it's just
part of her job.
"I love my job. The kids are great," she said with a smile. "I
love people."
