Imagine Clearwater
Imagine Clearwater is the city’s waterfront redevelopment
plan that will transform the downtown bluff and
Coachman Park into a vibrant, active waterfront.
This initiative began several years ago and is
starting to take shape now.
This waterfront redevelopment strategy is
moving forward with the vacating of City Hall
and demolition of the Harborview Center. The
architectural design firm working on the library
modernization and enhancement component
of Imagine Clearwater provided the city with draft
construction drawings in November 2019. The drawings
depict a beautiful, active waterfront. A construction manager
is being selected for the library and park construction, and
the city’s goal is to have permits in place for early 2020.
Since the beginning of the project, the city has focused
on engaging with the Clearwater community to create a
beautiful, active space that is shaped by the community.
Focus groups and public meetings were held a couple of
years ago to identify what the community wanted, and
the city is continuing that effort as infrastructure and park
designs continue.
Last December, city staff held five information sessions
with the general public to share the 30-percent designs
and discuss the project's progress. The city received a lot of
important feedback from residents during the meetings and
by completing a survey. All that feedback was shared with
the City Council.
