PROJECT 128
HOOPED SKY SCENES | ANITA'S EXPRESS | 200
MAY 2020
Choosing the correct fabrics will make the designs pop!
Choosing the correct fabrics for your sky scenes will really
help your projects fly high! When selecting your base fabric,
keep in mind that you want to use fabrics that don't tend to
fray and can hold their shape. Felts are the perfect option
for this because you can trim away without worrying about
fraying, and they come in a huge range of colors! We chose
bright, but natural colors for most of our designs. This
allowed our patches to be eye-catching, but still have a bit of
a realistic look.
Once you select your fabrics, you can pull together a group
of threads that match them. Depending on which designs
you want to use for your project, you might need a rainbow
of colors, or you might only need a few shades of gray
and orange! You can follow our designs as inspiration and
guidance for what threads and fabrics you might need.
The last fabric to select for your project is the tulle. Tulle will
be used when you construct the sky scene in a wooden
hoop. Sandwiching the layers of stitched out clouds and
elements between the tulle will make your sky scene more
dimensional and realistic. Try out a couple of different colors
of tulle for a day time scene or a starry night sky!
