PROJECT 139
BUTTON JARS | ANITA'S EXPRESS | 173
NOVEMBER 2020
It's all about the buttons and fabrics!
To make each of your mason jars as eye-catching as
possible, plan out your fabrics and buttons around your
chosen design. Some of the designs have specific themes,
such as the cute candy jars or autumn jars, so you can start
hunting for buttons that will match the themes. As you select
your buttons, keep in mind the size of the design you will be
stitching out. You will need to use smaller and fewer buttons
for the C sized designs, and can use more buttons for the
larger designs. Once you have your buttons picked out,
then you can start selecting your fabrics. We decided to use
fabrics such sparkly vinyl, twill, and chunky glitter sheets as
our appliqués for the jars.
To choose the correct colors for your design, you can
either select your fabrics to match the buttons you have,
or you can do the opposite and select your buttons to
match the colors of your fabrics. Whichever you have
more of on hand is the best way to start! Once you've got
your buttons and fabrics planned out, all your have left is
to pick your thread colors and get stitching! Our threads
were pulled to match our fabrics, as well as contrast them
tonally. For some of the outlines of the jars, we decided to
stitch them in a darker or lighter thread color than the fabric
to give it a more obvious outline, while others matched.
