My Clearwater
Summer 11
The Clearwater Public Library System is gearing up
for a summer of “Tails and Tales.” These programs
foster a love of reading and focus on celebrating
animals of all kinds.
Continuing to read during the summer break is always
important for students to continue to grow academically.
This summer is especially vital, as students experienced new
ways of learning due to the pandemic. This is a great time
to explore your knowledge of a new subject or enhance your
reading pleasure by discovering a new author or genre.
New this year is a move to a virtual reading program for
the whole family. Beanstack is a free, online service that
offers unique and fun ways to connect children and teens
with books and educational reading activities. Participants
are matched by age and reading level. They can also choose
areas of interest. The accompanying Badge Book is a
reading log and calendar that is designed to match
the online reading challenge. As participants track
their reading on the Beanstack website and mobile
app, kids between the ages
of five to 10 earn badges
matched to stickers.
In addition to our exciting new online reading challenge, all
Clearwater library branches will continue to offer a series of
fun, engaging virtual programs presented by the city’s youth
services librarians. Keeping with the animal summer reading
theme, the “Teachers of Nature” program will be taught by
experts in the field and will provide virtual classes with live
animals.
Enjoy the library’s weekly take-and-make craft kits, nature
scavenger hunts, story times, robotic animals and much
more. The summer reading program will conclude with the
city’s annual backpack, book and school supply giveaway, as
students prepare for the new school year.
Clearwater’s library staff is looking forward to a fun and
interactive summer reading program that connects children,
teens and families with the library. Check out the library’s
Facebook page (facebook.com/clearwaterlib), YouTube

library’s website (myclearwaterlibrary.com) for additional
