offer proven ways through defined
research to promote wellness and
manage or reduce health concerns
and/or falls. Class size is limited.

Building Better Caregivers
This evidence-based program created
at Stanford University provides tools
to caregivers regarding:
• Caregiver stress
• Dealing with difficult care partner
behaviors
• Getting help
• Making decisions about treatment,
housing, etc.
• Communicating effectively
with family, friends and health
professionals
• Dealing with caregiver and care
Enhance® Fitness
This program is hosted with the
YMCA of the Suncoast. This evidencebased
group exercise program uses
simple, easy-to-learn movements that
motivate individuals (particularly
those with arthritis) to stay active.
Each session includes cardiovascular,
strength training, balance and flexibility
exercises. The program is provided by
Pinellas County Social Action Funding.
This one-hour class is held three times
weekly for 16 weeks.

A Matter of Balance: Managing
Concerns about Falls
Many older adults experience concerns
about falling and restrict their activities.
This award-winning, evidence-based
program is designed to manage falls
and increase activity levels. Program is
presented by certified instructors.

Chronic Disease Self-Management
Program
This evidence-based, Stanford
University program helps manage
health concerns, increase activity and
enjoy life more. Participants will learn
to:
• Manage pain
• Work with a healthcare team
• Manage other symptoms
• Use medication effectively
• Exercise safely and easily
• Handle difficult emotions, such as
depression, anger or guilt
• Communicate better about your
health with family and friends
• Problem solve issues effectively
• Relax and reduce stress
• The program consists of six,
two-hour sessions

Program (DEEP)
The National American Association
of Diabetes Educators provides this
6-week course to empower people
to take charge of their diabetes by
avoiding disease complications and
improving self-management skills. This
program is provided by BayCare.

This 12-week program was developed
by registered dieticians, nurses and
health educators and uses science-based
information to reduce chronic diseases
through obesity prevention. This

The Florida SHINE Program (i.e.
Serving the Health Insurance Needs of
Elders) provides unbiased information
regarding Medicare basics, supplement
insurance, Advantage plans and
financial assistance programs. SHINE
representatives will be available

assistance.
