My Clearwater
A Bright and Reliably Efficient Energy Choice
Hurricanes, thunderstorms and other severe weather
conditions can sometimes cause power outages
lasting anywhere from a few hours to several
weeks. For homeowners, this can be extremely
inconvenient and totally devastating to businesses that are
unable to serve customers or otherwise generate income.

Power outages can affect millions of people, leaving them
in the cold (or heat) for several days. It’s no secret that the
sustainability and security offered by natural gas energy
ensures that life will not be totally disrupted should an
outage occur. That’s why many hospitals, assisted living
facilities and restaurants often rely on the support of natural
gas energy to keep their essential operations afloat, even
during power outages or natural disasters.
Thankfully, natural gas distribution lines are buried
underground, therefore, providing nearly 100 percent service
reliability during power outages. In addition to its reliably
efficient characteristics, natural gas is also approximately
$800 less expensive per year for a typical household.
According to a recent American Gas Association study,
Florida adds more than one natural gas customer every hour.
In today’s post-COVID world of working and studying
remotely, it is more important now than ever to have peace
of mind in knowing the power will stay on, rain or shine.
Currently, more than 7,700 Clearwater residents rely daily
on gas service to power their homes or businesses for water
heating, cooking, powering generators and pool and spa
heating. Over the past five years, Clearwater Gas System’s
significant growth spurt in the Clearwater area (due to
natural and propane gas service requests for generator
connections) has helped boost the installation of new gas
line extensions. For example, seven new Clearwater beach
hotels are scheduled to break ground within the coming
months, all of which will be serviced by natural gas energy.
“We feel confident that we will continue to grow and add
hundreds of new gas customers within the next few years,”
stated Chuck Warrington, Clearwater Gas System’s executive
director.
Clearwater Gas System provides natural and propane gas
service to approximately 29,500 residential and commercial
customers in our 330 square mile service territory, which
includes 20 municipalities as well as unincorporated areas
of Pinellas, Pasco and northwest Hillsborough counties.
