My Clearwater
Volunteer of the Year Awards
The city of Clearwater has hundreds of volunteers who
support the city’s recreation centers, parks, police,
special events, athletics, libraries, neighborhoods and
more. They are vital to keeping Clearwater bright,
beautiful, safe and full of exciting activities. Congratulations
to the following 2021 Volunteer of the Year Award
recipients.

Courtney Campbell Causeway Clean
Up Crew
Betsy Marvin started the Courtney
Campbell Clean Up Crew at the
beginning of the pandemic and has
been cleaning up the causeway with
community volunteers nearly every
week for the last year and a half.
This group has removed thousands of
pounds of trash and continues to inspire
hundreds of volunteers to become part of the
solution.
Adopt-a-Street Group of the Year
“Philip Currey Family” led by Nancy Currey
The “Philip Currey
Family” was one of the
first groups to adopt
a space in the city of
Clearwater. Twenty one
years ago, Nancy’s late
husband, Philip would
go on runs several times
a week and pick up trash
along the way. Nancy
and Philip felt it was
important to give back
to their community
and formally adopted
Palmetto Street at Highland Avenue and Wood Street in
2000. Nancy continues to clean up Palmetto Street with her
grandchildren to this day.
Adopt-a-Park Group of the Year
Spring Branch Neighborhood Association
State Street Park
Led by Alexandra Nixon
Spring Branch Neighborhood
Association not only cleans
up the park every couple of
months, but it also cleans up
nearby streets, waterways and
storm drains to prevent trash
from being swept into the ocean.
This group consistently pulls large
debris, such as tires, scrap metal and
wood, out of the forested areas of this park.
Public Spaces Steward of the Year
Jane Grossman
Jane Grossman has consistently
volunteered as a steward of
Clearwater parks, beaches and
public spaces. Grossman’s
positive attitude, smile and
willingness to jump in wherever
needed is contagious. You will
often see her out braving the rain,
cold, heat and other elements to pick
up litter and help beautify Clearwater.
