Charity Softball Game to Benefit Family of Fallen
Pinellas County Sheriff Deputy Magli
Want to attend a
family-friendly
event that’s for a
good cause? Have we
got a great time for you.
The Clearwater Police Department’s 18th annual Charity
Softball Challenge is scheduled for Sept. 11 at BayCare
Ballpark. Held annually to benefit someone from the law
enforcement community, the event was not held last year
because of the pandemic.
This year, proceeds will benefit the family of fallen Pinellas
County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Magli. He was
killed in the line of duty Feb. 17 while trying to stop a
drunken driver.
Clearwater Police and Largo Police will combine to take on a
team from the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
Game time is set for 3:30 p.m., with a game between the
Clearwater Threshers and Bradenton
Marauders taking place at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are $20 and include both
games and free food and drinks
between 5 and 7:30 p.m. They
will be available at the gate.
A silent auction will also be
held, with a variety of sports
memorabilia, local hotel stays and
other items.
“No matter the color of uniform we wear in
our communities, this is a time we can all come
together to support one cause and help the family of
Deputy Magli, a true fallen hero,” said Police Chief Dan
Slaughter.
“With the game being on
Sept. 11, it’s also a time we
can remember those who
gave their lives on that day.”
As of the time this publication
went to press, this event was
scheduled. Please monitor our
city and police department social
media pages as we get closer to the
date of the event to see if ongoing
pandemic issues have prompted a
cancellation.
