Clearwater Deb Day
2015 Debutantes Abigail Brand of Clearwater, Carter Fish of Redington
Beach, Samantha Fowler of Largo and Constantina Geleys of
Belleair Beach participated in The Clearwater Debutante Club’s Deb
Day at the Carlouel Yacht Club on Clearwater Beach. Debutante Kaitlin
Parker of Dunedin was unable to attend. This traditional luncheon kickoff
of Clearwater’s debutante season featured a hands-on demonstration
by members of the Belleair Garden Club, debutante etiquette instruction
by Tampa Bay Magazine’s Margaret Word Burnside, as well as the chance
to be with each other, the Deb committee and several of Clearwater’s
original 1959 debutantes.

Sandra Lyth and Board President Ramon Carrion welcomed supporters and
dignitaries to the fifth annual InterCultural Advocacy Institute Luncheon held at
the Safety Harbor Resort and Spa in Safety Harbor. The benefit’s keynote speaker,
the Honorable Carlos López-Cantera, Lieutenant Governor of the State of Florida,
was introduced by Florida Senator Jack Latvala.
The InterCultural Advocacy Institute (Hispanic Outreach Center), which was
chosen the Clearwater Regional Chamber’s 2015 Small Not-For-Profit Business of
the Year, is celebrating its 15th year of commitment to the development of strong
families, community engagement, social and economic integration, and education
of our diverse community.

Clearwater Downtown Partnership executive
board member David Allbritton presented
the “Person of the Century” award to former
Clearwater High School principal and past
City Commissioner Bill Justice, who attended
the event with his wife Marian.
The 8th Annual Clearwater Downtown
Partnership’s Momentum Awards
were held at the Historic Capitol
Theatre. With Rick Homas, the president
and CEO of the Hillsborough Economic
Development Corporation, as the
keynote speaker and Bay News 9’s
Vi rginia Johnson and Tampa Bay
Magazine’s Aaron Fodiman as emcees, it
was an entertaining evening that
highlighted Clearwater ’s centennial
anniversary. Seven major awards were
given to local businesses in recognition of
their accomplishments over the past year.
In addition, Brian Aungst, Jr. presented
the “Individual Contribution Award” to
Brian Aungst, Sr.; and Bill Sturtevant
presented the “Chairman’s Award” to
Stu Shalloman. 9

passengers from a downed airline in
January, 2009. He graciously thanked
Red Cross volunteers for their assistance.

was congratulated by Dr. Ron Vaughn,
president of the University of Tampa on
receiving the honor of Life Member.
