BEST OF BROADWAY
Newsies will
play at the
Straz Center.
also has Broadway plays on their
schedule. In November, the Tony
Award-winning musical drama West
Side Story will transport Romeo and
Juliet to New York City for one of the
greatest love stories of all time, with
music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics
by Stephen Sondheim. Then, in March,
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s
timeless rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar
will explore Jesus’ meteor-like rise to
renown as a parallel to contemporary
celebrity worship. Classic vaudeville
will be Eight O’Clock Theatre’s May
production, as they bring A Funny Thing
Happened On the Way to the Forum to
Largo with all the hair-brained schemes
of this musical comedy.
Ruth Eckerd Hall will stage Annie.
Broadway theater is alive and well
in Tampa Bay, so mark your calendars
and get your tickets now, as all of these
shows tend to sell out quickly.
