The name Erdei is derived
from the Hungarian word
for forest, erdö, and literally
means “the man from the woods.”
Therefore, it is very understandable
that Peter Erdei surrounds himself
with wood, as his family has done
for generations.
At his firm, Erdei Designs in
Largo, Peter salvages trees, some
hundreds of years in age, in order to
give them a new future as furniture.
Using Old World craftsmanship, he
works with wood to bring out its
inherent beauty.
He learned the craft from his
father and his grandfather. In the
family tradition, Peter doesn’t just
build furniture. Rather, he creates
pieces of art from wood, such as
coffee tables, benches, desks and
more, that will last and hopefully
inspire future generations.
Peter imbues new life into
salvaged trees, releasing the
natural art forms hidden within
them. He keeps more than 600
slabs of carefully selected wood
in inventory, in order to have
the resources to build exactly
what his customers want. When
completed, these pieces are given
multiple coatings of resin epoxy or
polymerized tung oil to give them
a hard, resilient finish that brings
out the natural grains of the wood.
Peter wants to hear your story,
so he can find the tree to match
your life.
