BLOCKS & BORDERS
APPLIQUÉ BLOCK STEP-BY-STEP
To start, hoop a piece of No Show Mesh and run the
first machine step, which is the squaring stitch.
The next machine step is the tacking stitch, which will
hold the batting in place. Use scissors to trim away the
excess batting up to the tacking stitch.
Next, run the placement stitch for the first
appliqué fabric.
Place a piece of batting on top of the squaring stitch,
making sure that it completely covers the
squaring stitch.
Once trimmed, the block should look like this.
TIP: Trimming away the excess batting will make it
easier to piece your quilt blocks later.
Place the appliqué fabric face up on top of the
placement stitch. Leave 1⁄2” seam allowance on all
sides outside of the batting area.
