Young Patronesses of the Opera
Founded in 1956, the Young Patronesses of the Opera (YPO) has
educational programs in the community. Through its various activities,
YPO brings opera to almost 30,000 elementary school children each year. YPO’s
projects include professional in-school operas presented to elementary schools in
Miami-Dade and Broward Counties; Opera Funtime booklets that teach children
about various operas through poetry, song, and activities; Girl Scout workshops,
which enable Girl Scouts to earn their opera badge through experiencing various
stages of opera; and a teacher’s workshop, preparing South Florida teachers to
include opera in the classroom. For further information, visit www.ypo-miami.org.

Junior Opera Guild
The Junior Opera Guild
(JOG) was created in
1968 by YPO to encourage
the appreciation for opera education and
awareness in our youth. Members of JOG
are boys and girls in 9th - 12th grade and they
earn community service hours for the work
they do. This past year JOG celebrated 50
years of service with an alumni Fashion Show/
Silent Auction fundraiser. This is a studentrun
organization. JOG members usher at
operas and volunteer at opera workshops.
Among the projects JOG has chosen to
support with the proceeds of its fundraising
are Opera Funtime publications for children,
scholarship awards in the biennial YPO/
FGO voice competition, and FGO's Studio
Artist Program. For information on how to join
contact JOG at www.ypo-miami.org
