This program can help those in need of medical care and who
want help in applying for Medicaid, or in need of food and can
benefit from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program
SNAP, formerly called food stamps.

DEPARTMENT FOR AGING AND INDEPENDENT LIVING
KY DAIL
Don’t let the name, Department for Aging and Independent
Living, fool you. Any Kentucky resident over the age of 18
is potentially eligible for services from this program. This
department also administers the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
Trust Fund and the Traumatic Brain Injury Behavioral program;
both are described in this section.
Resource Guide
A complete listing of resources that is available through the
Kentucky Department for Aging and Independent Living is
found in The Resource Market: Aging and Disability Resource
Guide. This guide can either be downloaded onto your computer,
or you may request a free copy by calling 1-877-293-7447. Many
of the services provided by KY DAIL can be obtained through
your regional Area Agency on Aging. Please see the directory at
the end of this section for contact information for your nearest
Area Agency on Aging.
Selected Services
• Caregiver Support Services
This program offers support to grandparents caring for children
with disabilities who are living in their home without their
parents and have an annual income of no more than 150%
($36,375 for a family of 4 for 2015) of the federal poverty level for
financial assistance.

- Annual grants or vouchers
• Caregiver Support Services – National
The National Family Caregiver Support Program offers flexible
benefits and support services to informal caregivers of people 60
years of age or older, an individual with Alzheimer’s disease or
a related disorder and also for grandparents and relatives age 55
or older caring for a relative child no older than 18 years of age
related by birth, marriage or adoption. The services include:
- Information about available programs and
services
- Assistance accessing services
- Counseling, support groups, and training to help
caregivers make decisions and solve problems related
to their caregiver role.
- Respite care to give caregivers time off from care
giving responsibilities.
- Supplemental services on a limited basis, to
supplement caregiving tasks.
• Brain Injury Support Groups
The Baptist Health Louisville Brain Injury Support Group
focuses on helping persons with brain injuries, their families and
caregivers cope with the emotions, behaviors and other changes
associated with brain injuries.
Healthcare professionals from the Rehabilitation Program at
Baptist Health Louisville coordinate the meetings. Psychologists
from the program lead the group sessions.
The Brain Injury Support Group meets on the first Wednesday of
every month (except May, June, July) from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the
hospital’s second-floor Education Center.
The Brain Injury Support Group is provided free of charge by
the Rehabilitation Program at Baptist Health Louisville. It is
recognized by the Brain Injury Alliance of Kentucky. Attendance
is open to anyone who has a brain injury and their family
members and friends.

Services under this program:
• Stroke Club
The Baptist Health Louisville Stroke Club is for people who have
had a stroke, their family members and friends. It is for people
who want to help themselves by:
• meeting people who have had a similar experience;
• offering encouragement and moral support to others;
• attending social events; and
• understanding the many physical and emotional
problems associated with strokes.
The Stroke Club provides support, understanding and
encouragement for them. Healthcare professionals from
the Rehabilitation Program at Baptist Health Louisville serve as
group leaders. Group leaders consist of a chaplain, social workers
and recreational therapists.
