Scholarships
Scholarships are gifts and awards based on a student’s academic
achievement, background, or other criteria. Taking the
Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) may give you a
chance to qualify for scholarship and recognition programs.
Employers of parents as well as of students may offer financial
aid, tuition reimbursement or scholarships for employees and/
or their children. Scholarships are available for students who fit
into certain ethnic groups, religious groups or civic organizations.
Local Chambers of Commerce may offer small grants or
scholarships to local students. There are also scholarships
available to students according to their chosen field of study or
institution.
Disability-specific scholarships are limited; however, some local
and national disability organizations offer scholarships. There
are no scholarships specifically designated for students who
have sustained brain injuries. Since brain injuries can cause
impairments in vision, hearing, mobility and learning, students
with these types of injury might be eligible for these scholarships.
Office of Vocational Rehabilitation
The Kentucky Office of Vocational Rehabilitation may be a
resource for funding for college; especially if you plan to use the
education to obtain employment. They also make vocational
training available so a person with a brain injury, or any other
disability, is able to be re-educated or re-trained to re-enter the
workforce. To learn more about this possible resource and to
contact the Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor nearest to your
home, call toll-free: 1-800-372-7172 or check out their web site at
