The 20th century art gallery is home to some of the museum’s most recognized paintings such as
Georgia O’Keeffe’s Poppy.
One of the new features is a program called Resonance that
explores the relationship between sound and the visual arts. It is
a collaboration with The Florida Orchestra, which has recorded
music selections that are appropriate to the theme of each gallery
to be played throughout the day at various times, thus bringing an
aural context to the art. Antonio Vivaldi is heard in the galleries
dedicated to the Baroque Period, while George Gershwin is
heard while viewing American modernism from the 20th century.
Resonance will later include spoken word and other auditory
experiences to include poetry, classic prose and artists’ writings.
In addition to the established galleries, two spaces have been
set aside for special exhibitions. The first two exhibitions have
been curated from the museum’s collection. “Explore the Vaults:
Abstraction and the American Scene” features works created
between 1900 and 1950. “Working Point: Contemporary Glass from
the MFA Collection” includes a range of techniques from cast to
blown processes and the practice of adding other materials into
glass.
