The mask on the table was the invitation sent for this party, which centered on the showing
of the 2004 Phantom of the Opera movie starring Patrick Wilson as arts benefactor Raoul,
who was vocalist Christine’s lover.
Since few people have been traveling, you
may want to have a menu based on some
favorite destination or style of dining. There
are so many options that you won’t have to think
hard to come up with a New Orleans-style meal
or some Spanish tapas to delight your guests.
Use your best glasses and dishes along with
some attractive decorations to make the table
look festive. You may even want to greet your
guests with party-themed masks. They will no
doubt appreciate your efforts.
Another fun addition to a dinner party is to
develop and serve a special cocktail, particularly
if you tie it into your theme. We often serve
two different wines with each course in order
to discuss which each guest prefers with what
they are eating. Since it is just a matter of
opinion, everyone gets to make a meaningful
comment, knowing there is no right or wrong
response. We also like to try out real and different
items. Experiment. Your friends will be happy
to try something new and will understand if
everything is not perfect. Friends are people
who know you and like you anyway.
