With folded fabric, we always start with the “cornerstone
appliqué”, which is similar to a standard appliqué. Go ahead
and run the next machine step, which is the placement stitch
for the cornerstone appliqué.

Place a piece of appliqué fabric right side up over the
placement stitch. Make sure you leave at least a 1⁄2” seam
allowance on the edges of the batting. You will need this
seam allowance when piecing your finished blocks together.
Run the tacking stitch to secure the appliqué fabric to the
design.
Once trimmed, your batting should look something like this.
