Noyes said they will be going hole-by-hole, step-by-step, with the Fazio team to fi ne-tune
the plans for the project. Over the summer the changes will be made, and they hope to
re-open in November. This is only slightly longer than they normally shut down, which is
July 5 through October 1.
Pope said new that Capillary Concrete bunkers, TifTuf Bermuda and TifEagle
Bermudagrass, as well as expanding the greens to their original size, are all part
of the plan. Leibold Irrigation out of Iowa will be working on the course.
They are among the best in the world at what they do, which is why
they were selected.
“I believe people will be ringing our phone off the hook when they
realize that the Fazio team will be redoing it in this manner,” Pope
said. “Most of our members play other top 100 golf courses, and
when these people are looking for a club, they want one that is
equal to what they play in the summer. They will want to come
to a place like this. Our greens are running 12, 13 … that’s
major championship golf speeds.
Pope said he is also looking forward to the changes to come
for the ladies who play the course.
“One thing I’m really excited about is that there will be new
tees for ladies. This will eliminate forced carries of hazards. We
strive to keep fi rm course conditions to make the game more
enjoyable to the average golfer.”
Pope said he hopes to travel to other golf courses around
the country that are equal to Coral Creek, not only to tell
the story of the best-kept-secret 18 holes on the Cape Haze
Peninsula, but to hear other courses’ stories as well. He is obviously
very proud of the team, and the course.“Being a Fazio golf course,
it’s amazing now,” he said. “But wait until the end of the year … it will
be fabulous.” Noyes agreed, and said he is looking forward to a very
busy 2020-21 season when the renovations are complete. “We’re excited
where we are today, and where we are going to be for many tomorrows,”
he said.
