Each year at the Jersey Shore, the unofficial start of summer is heralded by the return
of horses to Monmouth Park Racetrack. As temperatures rise and days grow longer, a
seemingly never-ending caravan of horse trailers makes an April arrival, a prelude to a
May Opening Day.
Located just two miles inland from the beaches of Long Branch, the historic Monmouth
Park Racetrack has been a symbol of summer going all the way back to 1870. In those
days, businessmen, politicians and socialites frequented the racetrack as part of their
getaway to the Jersey Shore. Now, locals and tourists alike attend the races to experience
the fun and excitement of one of the Jersey Shore’s greatest entertainment venues.
In recent years, however, Monmouth Park has expanded beyond just a summertime place
to be. In addition to being the summer home to world-class thoroughbred racing and
some of the Shore’s biggest events—including the Jersey Shore Food Truck Festival, Surf
& Turf Seafood Festival, and BBQ & Craft Beer Festival—Monmouth Park is now a yearround
home to legal sports betting.
The Monmouth Park Sports Book by William Hill opened as New Jersey’s first legal sports
book on June 14, 2018. With a Vegas-style betting menu, the sports book is open seven
days a week year-round. Fans can watch every big game on Monmouth Park’s 75-foot HD
