During the pandemic lockdown in March, Debi created the 12-by-24-inch The
Dutch Still Life, which is not her normal style. It uses a traditional atelier
realistic art technique that her former art school teacher introduced to her, but
that she didn’t pursue at that time. She says it shows we shouldn’t be afraid to
revisit earlier ideas.

Her classical training in
painting was at the Philadelphia
Academy of Art, and she studied
aesthetics at the renowned Barnes
Foundation School of Art. Before
moving to the Tampa Bay area,
she lived and worked as an artist
in New York City for over two
decades, where she exhibited
in well-known galleries. Her
work is in prominent permanent
collections such as the U.S.
Embassy in Paris, St. Mary’s
College in Maryland and the
printmaking workshop collection
in New York City.
As with most artists, her work
speaks most elegantly for herself
and does not need description or
interpretation. 9
