TAMPA BAY
Joshua Ginsberg’s guidebook,
Secret Tampa Bay: A Guide to the
Weird, Wonderful and Obscure,
helps unlock the intriguing
monuments, museums and history
of our geographic area. He delves
into local culture, history, art and
attractions. You are bound to
be fascinated by his numerous
finds, which range from the
universally known subjects such
as the Gonzmart family and their
Columbia Restaurants to the seldom
spoken of Tarpon Springs mosaic
mural of early settler and gardener
Mother Meres. There are almost 100
discoveries in this well-written book
that are illustrated with photos
of these mini-views into our rich
heritage. The book, published
by Reedy Press, is available at
reedypress.com, amazon.com and
wherever books are sold. 9

In his book, Florida’s Healing
Waters, Rick Kilby explores the
history of “taking the waters,”
referring to the time when
travelers came to Florida to visit
the state’s 1,000 freshwater springs
in search of good health. Kirby
discusses how Florida’s abundant
water resources were promoted
and developed as restorative
destinations for the emerging upper
class. Many of these health spas and
elaborate bathing facilities are gone,
unlike our own Safety Harbor Spa
that still offers its special water for
those in search of good health. The
book is filled with rare photographs,
vintage postcards, advertisements
and fascinating details of these
attractions that lured so many to
our state. The book is published
by University Press of Florida and
is available at upress.ufl.edu or at
amazon.com.
This first installment in
the Zoey’s Adventures
book series follows
Zoey, a quirky Golden
Retriever rescue pup, as
she eagerly anticipates
her visit to an ice cream
shop. The bright, fun
story provides a valuable
lesson for its readers. As
an added benefit, author
Ilene Lieber is planning on
donating a portion of the
proceeds from the sales
of the books to charitable
animal organizations
such as Pet Pal Animal
Shelter in St. Petersburg.
The book is available at
