Christopher Still, whose work has been on the cover of
Tampa Bay Magazine more than any other artist, is a
remarkable Renaissance man. In addition to being a
great artist, he is a historian, a researcher, an adventurer,
a philosopher and a humanitarian. Born in Clearwater and
raised in Dunedin, he now lives and works in Tarpon Springs,
where he has become Florida’s leading artist.
Still graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the

Fine Arts in Philadelphia and then continued on to study
human anatomy at Jefferson medical school before traveling
to Italy, where he apprenticed in traditional art techniques in
Florence. During those years, he earned awards for outstanding
accomplishments in painting along with a European Travel
Fellowship and the Pennsylvania Governor’s Award for
outstanding accomplishment in fine art.

Christopher Still created this painting of
a traditional sponge diver while he was
visiting the Greek island of Kalymnos
last summer. This study is part of the
process for Beautiful and Historic
Tarpon Springs, his public art project
for AdventHealth North Pinellas. When
completed, his new masterpiece will be 108
inches by 108 inches and a focal point of
the newly renovated lobby of the hospital
in Tarpon Springs.
