Using a pair of scissors, trim away the excess batting from
around the tacking stitch.
Take a piece of appliqué fabric and place it over the
placement stitches, covering them completely. Tape in
place if needed.
NOTE: If your design starts with the first appliqué along
the edge of the block, be sure to leave a 1⁄2” excess
extending past the batting for your seam allowance!
Once secured, use a pair of scissors to trim away the
excess fabric, leaving a 1⁄2” seam allowance if your
appliqué extends out of the block.
The third step in your design will be a placement stitch for
the first appliqué.
Now, run the tacking stitch for your first appliqué.
TIP: Remember the fabric edges are exposed beneath
the motif stitches, so run the tacking stitches in a
matching thread color to your appliqué fabrics.
Once trimmed, your appliqué will look something like this.
