Using a pair of scissors, trim away the excess batting from
around the tacking stitch.
Next, run the placement stitch for your first piece of
appliqué.
Run the tacking stitch for the appliqué.
TIP: It is a good idea to match your thread to your
appliqués to avoid obvious tack down lines in your
finished block.
Your trimmed block should look something like this.
Place a piece of appliqué over the placement stitch, right
side up, being sure to cover the placement stitch entirely.
REMEMBER: If the fabric extends past the batting, you
will need about a 1⁄2” for your seam allowance.
Use scissors to trim away the excess fabric from the
tacking stitch.
