Use a pair of scissors to trim away the excess batting from
the tack down stitch.
Place your base fabric right side up over the block, being
sure to leave enough fabric for a 1⁄2” seam allowance.
TIP: Since these blocks incorporate a lot of decorative
embroidery, try adding an iron-on fusible interfacing to
your fabrics to prevent any pulling.
The next step in the design will be the placement for
your center appliqué. Run the placement stitch, then use
scissors and remove the fabric from within the placement
stitch. NOTE: We do this to help prevent the design from
becoming too dense.
Your trimmed block should look something like this.
Now, run the tacking stitch for the base fabric.
TIP: Remember to match your tack down thread to your
base fabric!
Now, place your center appliqué fabric over the placement
stitch space, being sure to cover the stitches on all sides.
