He credits World War II
veteran Tucker Jones, who
built a small machining shop
for supporting Sigma Glass
Studio in its early stages.
Alongside fellow artists
Duncan McClellan, John
Brekke and often assisted
by Vasile Loznianu, Boux
developed unprecedented
techniques involving
multiple overlays of glass
and surface carving to create
multi-layered vessels that tell
unique stories.
As a math major who
worked in construction after
serving in the Army, Boux
has always had an inclination
toward exploration. Traveling
has been an essential element
in his work, as his experiences
have exposed him to the rich
histories and art of cultures
abroad, namely Istanbul
and the Yucatán Peninsula.
In addition to Turkish and
ancient Mexican folklore,
Boux’s work explores
various themes, such as
major historical events,
Florida wildlife inspired
by his local landscape, plus
Persian-inspired patterns and
lanterns.
Birds of Paradise
is one of the largest
pieces Boux has
created using his
signature overlay
technique.
