Art and the
Animal
St. Petersburg. The new James Museum of Western and Wildlife Art in St. Petersburg is hosting
“Art and the Animal,” the first show in its almost 4,000-square-foot James Special
Exhibitions gallery in partnership with the Society of Animal Artists. The society
has selected 125 paintings and sculptures for display in its 58th annual exhibit.
Most of the works on display are for sale at prices that start at $250 and top out
at $40,000. The exhibit will be open until October 23rd. The James Museum at 150
Central Ave. is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. with additional hours until 8 p.m.
on Tuesdays.

The seventh annual Royal Ball for the St. Pete Glitter
Queens will be held on Friday, September 28th at the
St. Petersburg Marriott Clearwater. This year’s theme
is “Copa Caliente: A Night in Old Havana.” The ball
will benefit Starting Right, Now, which works to end
homelessness for youth by providing mentoring, a stable
home and by teaching financial literacy and life skills.

Nature-themed glass paperweights

Stankard was born in 1943, grew
up the second of nine children in
Massachusetts, and studied glass
blowing at Salem Community
College before becoming a fulltime
artist. He is considered to be
a living master in paperweight
art. He cites the poetry of Walt
Whitman as a major influence in his
intricate works of glass. For exhibit

Cooters Crab Fest
Cooters Restaurant and Bar on Clearwater
