The Stageworks season continues from
February 7-24 with Ready Steady Yeti Go, a
satire about how even people working to
stand up against racism can still perpetuate
it, followed by Agatha Christie’s mystery
The Mousetrap from March 21 through
April 7. Finally, 4 Guys Named José and
Una Mujer Named Maria will be from May
30 through June 16, performed in Spanish
and English with Latin tunes such as “La
Bamba,” “Guantanamera” and “Bésame
Mucho” sung in four-part and five-part
harmony.
Richey Suncoast Theatre
Five shows make up the season ticket
package at Richey Suncoast Theatre in
New Port Richey, starting with Hands
on a Hardbody, where 10 contestants vie
for a truck in Longview, Texas. It will be
presented from September 6-16. Then
comes Unnecessary Farce about cops and
crooks from October 25 through November
4 and the comedy Fox on the Fairway
From July 17 through August 18 will be
the 2015 Tony Award winner Fun Home,
which is about a dysfunctional family and
seeing your parents through grown-up
eyes. In addition to the subscription series,
the annual park performance at Demens
Landing will be Mamma Mia! from April
10 through May 12.
Stageworks Theatre
In Tampa, Stageworks Theatre is getting
ready for a season under the theme of
“Embracing the Past and Changing the
Future,” beginning with Judgment at
Nuremberg from September 27 through
October 14, followed by The Revolutionists
from November 1-18. Judgment at
Nuremberg is about Nazis facing postwar
trials, while The Revolutionists is about
four women who lived boldly in France
during the French Revolution’s Reign
of Terror. On a lighter note, The Winter
Wonderettes will be from December 6-23,
a holiday celebration with lots of energetic
songs such as “Jingle Bell Rock,” Run,
freeFall Theatre Company
The freeFall Theatre Company on Central
Avenue in St. Petersburg will present six
shows that range from classics to new,
unseen productions. Broadway’s longest
running romantic musical, The Fantasticks,
will be freeFall’s first show from September
22 to October 21. Then for the month of
December, freeFall Theatre will perform a
holiday classic, Every Christmas Story Ever
Told (and then some!), which is filled with
carols and holiday traditions from around
the world. Perfect Arrangement starts off the
new year from January 26th to February 24,
2019, telling the story of two couples from
1950 that appear to be married, but in fact,
Bob is with Jim and Norma is with Millie.
This leads to humorous situations that will
make you think about the world in which
we live. Then, from March 23 to April 14,
Crumbs from the Table of Joy will intrigue
you, as a father and his two daughters
struggle with their lives in a changing
world. Next, Buyer & Cellar explores
fame and its consequences from May
11 through June 9 in a play that is based
upon a fantasy of “What If.” FreeFall’s final
show of the season is a world premiere
of Under Fire, which first was a film that
starred Nick Nolte and Gene Hackman. A
photographer is asked to compromise his
journalistic ethics for what he feels is a just
cause. This political thriller has a tuneful,
driving score, as it searches for answers
to important questions. It runs from July
13 through August 4.
American Stage
At American Stage in St. Petersburg,
the season kicks off October 3 through
November 4 with Between Riverside and
Crazy, a Tampa Bay premiere. From
November 28 through December 30 is Miss
Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, a sequel to
Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. From
January 23 through February 24 is Pipeline,
the tale of an inner-city pubic high school
teacher wanting to give her own son better
opportunities. Next up is The Roommate
from March 13 through April 7, about a
woman in her mid-50s who needs someone
to share her home following her divorce.
Long Day’s Journey into Night, which won
the 1957 Pulitzer Prize in Drama, continues
the season from May 29 through June 30.
Momma Mia! will be American Stage’s outdoor production
in St. Petersburg in the spring.
