By his 22nd birthday, Cole Custer had nine wins and already 12 poles in NASCAR’s
second-best Series, x��nity. Furthermore, he will get to the ultimate stage he’s long sought
in 2020 as Stewart-Haas racing promoted him to the No. 41 Ford, replacing Daniel
Suarez this season.
While Cole Custer originally had an easier path to landing a ride in the No.
00 Ford Mustang at Stewart-Haas Racing, the son of team executive vice
president, Joe Custer, certainly has pulled his own weight.
A victory at the fall race at the Texas Motor Speedway was
one of 26 top-10 ��nishes in 33 starts in 2018, and it propelled
him to a second-place ��nish in the NASCAR x��nity Series
point standings.
He followed up that strong season with another good
2019. He had four top-10s in his ��rst ��ve races, and
his ��rst win of the season came in the ��fth race at
Auto Club Speedway.
He entered the season as one of the favorites to win an
x��nity Series Championship, and he managed expectations
well enough to ��nish second in points with wins at Fontana,
Richmond, Pocono, Chicago, Kentucky and even after
Denny Hamlin was dqi��ed).
Custer ��nished ��fth in points in his rookie x��nity Series campaign in 2017. He
posted a victory, seven top-��ve and 19 top-10 ��nishes.
Custer started on the ground ��oor, spending three driver – in the NASCAR GANDER RV & OUTDOORS twice
and ��nished 10th in points as a full-time driver in 2016.
He was promoted to the x��nity Series for ��ve races in 2016, then to a full-time
